What's your favourite quote?

"As you sail through life, don't avoid rough waters, sail on because a smooth sea never made a skillful sailor" English Proverb

What's your favourite sailing moment?

Sailing out of Sydney Heads at the start of every Sydney Hobart Race. The buzz from the spectators dies down and the whole race is left to play for.

What's the first boat you ever sailed?

The family's Sabot dinghy, before moving into the Optimist.

What's the biggest lesson sailing has taught you?

Sailing teaches us how to be self sufficient. When you're at sea, and something goes wrong, there is no one to come to your aid. You must solve the problem or perish. You may be surprised at what you can accomplish.

Favourite quote?

I have so many quotes I like!  “Ambition is the path to success, persistence is the vehicle you arrive in” Bill Bradley

“Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try” Anon

 Who got you into sailing?

My parents got me into sailing. I did not really have a choice in the matter as I grew up on a yacht. This was a truly amazing upbringing and one for which I am indebted to them for.

What's your favourite sailing moment?

Choosing one is not an easy task! I watched in awe as orcas hunted seals in Antarctica. I was thrilled at getting a 35 kt speed record surfing down Southern Ocean waves. Crossing the finish line, in London, at the end of the 13-14 Clipper Round the World Race with a happy crew and a podium position was my most rewarding sailing experience to date.

What's the first boat you ever sailed?

I believe it was a Hurbulot 65 schooner, she was called Windchild. This was the yacht I grew up on and where I gained my sea legs. My first dingy was a topper hull with a sunfish rig that my dad and I built from a wreck we found in the tip.

What's the biggest lesson sailing has taught you?

The first lesson is, you will never know everything. Every day you go out on the water you will learn something new. They say the day you stop learning is the day you should not put to sea because as beautiful as the ocean is it can be a cruel and inhospitable place requiring your respect and admiration.

Favourite quote?

"The cure for anything is salt water, sweat, tears or the sea." Isask Dinesen

Who got you into sailing?

Both my parents sail, so I was chucked out of my pram into a boat quite early on!

What's your favourite sailing moment?

If the wind is howling, the spinnaker is up and we're surfing along with the dolphins towards the sunset, I'm definitely in a happy place!

Although getting towed into the race village for the Mini Transat 2015, is definitely a special one for me. After 3 years of dedication and motivation to get to the start line, I made it - the race itself was a holiday!

What's the first boat you ever sailed?

The family clinker, Curly Q, very much as a passenger, I first started out on my own in an Optimist, and then Cadets.

What's the biggest lesson sailing has taught you?

It's taught me to live...! There's a famous quote that says, worse things happen at sea, but quite frankly it's wrong! To me, sailing is freedom, the waves and the sound of the ocean keep me alive.

What's your favourite sailing moment?

The two best bits of offshore sailing are the excitement as you leave the dock and then the relief of arriving. Everything in between has a tendency to be cold or hot, wet and exhausting.  Fortunately I quite enjoy those bits as well.

An old wooden Mirror dinghy on a very small lake

What's your favourite sailing moment?

That time at the end and or begining of the day when the sun is just coming and or going and there's no land in sight, that's pretty special. That and when the wind is just right for drone flying off the back!

What's the first boat you ever sailed?

She was a Hurbulot 65 schooner called Windchild, the boat I grew up on with my brother as a child and some of the best memories!

What's the biggest lesson sailing has taught you?

Never shout and always keep your cool. Also - you will never ever know everything there is to know about yachts and or the sea. No question is a stupid question and egos are best left at home.
